Bank bailouts, mortgage meltdowns, the Great Recession: You knew it was all part of an evil plan, right?

Well, guess what: You were right. In this YouTube video from the Associated Press, you can see the nefarious forces behind our current economic plight out in the open as the Dark Lord of the Sith himself, backed by his minions (the ones in the suits), rings the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange today.

FIC: The Lost

Title: The Lost
Fandom: Guiding Light
Pairing: Olivia/Natalia
Rating: R to NC-17

Notes: PLEASE READ This is a dark, angst-filled story with ADULT themes. It is not graphically violent or gratuitous in nature, but it can be quite dark. For those of you who read and enjoyed "Whatever It Takes," this story takes place shortly after. Completely different tone, though, so be prepared. If you haven't read WIT, it's not necessary but it is helpful.

I'm not 100% sure, but I feel like this is entirely new territory for Olivia & Natalia. Your comments are greatly appreciated.

ETA: Thanks for the immense outpouring of support for this story. I was nervous, I'll admit, but you've been amazingly insightful and supportive. Thank you x1000.

Title: Heroes and Friends

Fandom: Otalia

Rating: PG-13ish, coming deliciously close to NC-17 *evil grin*

Disclaimer: These wonderful ladies and the rest of the town belong to CBS, Telenext, and P&G. I’m just having some fun with them.

Spoilers: I don’t think so. This story picks up at the “no more waiting” gazebo scene and goes off canon.

Summary: Nat gets the shock of her life and it turns Liv’s world upside down.

Warning: Not beta’d so if it sucks, there’s only me to blame.

A/N:  I guess I’ve made you all wait patiently long enough.  We’re finally getting to some of the good stuff.

Chapter 17

It was wrap-up-in-your-warmest-outdoor-gear cold in New York City the day of the "Dance Your Ass Off" auditions, but even so, the hopefuls came from miles to audition for a chance to dance off their pounds on the second season of the Oxygen series.

"It is frigid and they are lining up around the block," creator/exec producer Lisa Ann Walter tells ET. "They came from Atlanta, Toronto and Brooklyn. The show inspired them."

Also on hand was season one contestant Alicia Duque, who made it to the semi-finals and has lost 110 pounds since her first weigh-in on the show tipped the scales at 257 pounds.

Slipknot

So, I've always been a fan of hard rock/metal music but I never really listened to Slipknot. I really like this song, though. Could you suggest me some of their songs? Thank you :)

Take your stinking paws off our spaceships, you damned dirty apes! In a move sure to provoke PETA (and start the more paranoid among us worrying that we're heading toward a Planet of the Apes-like future), the Russians are preparing to send a monkey to the Red Planet. According to The Telegraph, the Institute of Experimental Pathology and Therapy is looking into training monkeys for a simulated Mars mission that could eventually lead to an ape blasting into space.

I think it’s getting serious: Eliza Dushku and real-life boyfriend Rick Fox are playing Dollhouse together!
Sources confirm to me exclusively that the hoops star-turned-actor (Dirt, One Tree Hill) will appear as an Active in the Jan. 8 episode of the soon-to-expire drama.
In the don’t-blink-or-you’ll-miss-it cameo, Fox’s Doll will be seen rising from the imprint chair

There's a movie coming out on Christmas Day called Sherlock Holmes. You may have heard of it. But is it "Sherlock Holmes"? That is, is it true to Arthur Conan Doyle's creation as expressed in four novels and 56 short stories written between 1887 and 1927?

Yes and no.

The filmmakers told reporters in London last week that they went back to Conan Doyle's original stories about the world's most famous "consulting detective" whenever possible to get details and characteristics right for the new movie adaptation.

You know Sherlock Holmes was conceived to be a lucrative franchise, but they definitely took the classiest, most highbrow route to doing it. Just as Batman Begins re-established a familiar hero, teasing the possibility of future adventures, so does Sherlock Holmes. It excites us about intelligent crime solvers and makes us want to see more. It's the most fun you'll have at the movies this year.

The film shows how Holmes' (Robert Downey Jr.) mind works as he solves the opening crime scene. He catches Lord Blackwood, who gets sentenced to death. However, Blackwood's return from the dead keeps the case open and leads Holmes and Watson (Jude Law) to investigate whether Blackwood has supernatural powers.

The Yankees have acquired Javier Vazquez from the Atlanta Braves for Melky Cabrera, Mike Dunn and Boone Logan, sources told ESPN The Magazine senior writer Buster Olney.

Former Blue Jays ace Roy Halladay has taken out a full-page newspaper advertisement thanking the city and the team's fans.

Bree/Katherine Love Story

  • Dec. 22nd, 2009 at 2:08 PM
Plot: Katherine and Bree are starting to get a little friendly with each other. Despite both being married, there's a mutual attraction and this first ep explores that. Feel free to have a giggle, it's not supposed to be taken serious, although a good squee is in order. Disclaimer: I do not own Florence and the Machine, Bree Hodge or Katherine Mayfair ...or DH for that matter, merely taking these two characters and giving them a little fun.

'Lost' episode of Fringe to air next month

  • Dec. 22nd, 2009 at 7:00 AM

The strangest show on TV just got stranger. Rumors had floated around that there was a missing Fringe episode that had been filmed in season one but had never aired. Well, those rumors are true, and you're going to get a chance to see that episode.

Hi All,

Today, I am happy to be hosting Karen Olson as part of Hartford Books Examiner's Holiday Book Giveaway Extravaganza. Karen is the author of two series--the Annie Seymour Mysteries and the new Tattoo Shop Mysteries--and I am giving away SIGNED COPIES of one book from each! (Karen is also sharing her memories of a Christmas spent in Sweden...)

The first in the Tattoo Shop Mysteries, The Missing Ink, was released in July. Set in Las Vegas, the book introduces protagonist Brett Kavanaugh, tattoo artist and owner of the Painted Lady. When one of her clients goes missing, Brett finds herself in the middle of a mystery that involves an inked stalker, a suave Englishman, and an Elvis karaoke bar. And things go from bad to worse with her discovery of a dead body. Publishers Weekly called the book “pleasantly jargon-free” and continued, “Readers need not be conversant with street flash or other industry terms to enjoy the setting and follow Brett down a trail of needles and gloves to the dramatic finale.”
