The new fall tv season is underway. Now I just need to make sure I have the schedule down so I don’t miss any of those that I was hoping to check out. It seems that my Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays & Sundays should be full for a while.

NO, I don't want the Rolling Stone Special Commemorative Tribute Issue for Michael Jackson.
NO, I don't want to watch ANOTHER news report about Michael Jackson
NO, I don't want to watch ANOTHER special tv tribute about Michael Jackson
NO, I don't want to see ANOTHER story about Michael Jackson in a newspaper or magazine.
Yes, I understand that Michael Jackson was a popular singer, however, I don't think there was anything that special about him that would make his death turn out to be the media circus that it's been so far. (here's my Jukebox tribute to MJ)
My point is - in the last few weeks, we've lost Ed McMahon, Farrah Fawcett, Karl Malden, Gale Storm, and Billy Mays. Has anyone noticed? Other than the 'breaking news' alerts we got at the death of Farrah Fawcett, which were quickly eclipsed by the MJ news, all we see is a few small mentions and then... nothing.
SO, here's a salute to Ed, Farrah, Karl, Gale and Billy.

...The day Aldous Huxley died.
It took a couple days, but I finally had a chance to watch Sheryl Crow's performance on the Tonight Show with Conan from Wednesday night. I was surprised to hear one of my favorite Sheryl songs being sung - "Run Baby Run". It was great to see most of the 'usual suspects' backing her up - Peter, Tim, Jeremy, and Mike, along with a couple backup singers I didn't recognize.

...no, I still won't say it.
I just saw at the USA Today blog that the cast of The Goonies has reunited for the 20th Anniversary Issue of Empire Magazine.

Now don't tell my you didn't love this movie because I won't believe you. It's a classic. Yes, probably a guilty pleasure for most people, and they never admit it either. I raise my voice to say - I LOVE 'THE GOONIES'! It was my introduction to most of the actors in this movie, and ones I would come to enjoy watching later on - like Josh Brolin, Robert Davi, Joey Pants, Anne Ramsey, and Sean Astin.
Check out the reunion video
If that's not enough celebration for the 20th Anniversary, the issue also features Cameron Crowe's Top 10 (or 36) Music Moments in Film.

Currently listening to the wonderful classic country sounds of Johnny Cash. Now THERE was a music icon!!
Okay, that really has nothing to do with anything at the moment. It’s just been a while since I’ve listened to that song.
Before CSI airs in five hours, let’s get in a little schmooze session.

It seems there are too many jumbled thoughts going through my brain tonight, so how about a mish-mash of random posting?
Thought #1. Spring is FINALLY here. I'm contemplating whether I should start a garden in my backyard. I've been in town now for almost 11 years since moving from the farm, and I've yet to have my own garden here. I'm constantly annoyed that the fruits & veggies that I buy at the store are usually rotten by the time I actually use them, and having my own garden would give me the convenience of having things fresh.
The downside is the upkeep. In the past, I wasn't a good gardener. The weeds ended up being waist high and overtaking most of the fruits & veggies.
Thought #2. I'm looking forward to the new CSI episode this week. I hope there are some great scenes with Wendy as it seems she has a more prominent part in the storyline again. Even though I'm not a big fan of the sci-fi stuff, the preview of the episode looks interesting.
Thought #3. What's up with my Minnesota Twins? If they get decent pitching, they don't really get much offense. it they get lousy pitching, they still don't really get much offense. After two seasons, I'm still not much of a fan of Denard Span or Delmon Young.
Thought #4. Season 2 of In Plain Sight with Mary McCormack begins this sunday on the USA network. I'm looking forward to that starting up again.
Thought #5. Speaking of new/returning shows - Louise Lombard's new role in the NCIS spinoff will begin April 28th on NCIS as part 1 of the two-part crossover. Can't wait to see Louise back on screen. Tonight, SpikeTV was starting to re-air the beginning of season 6 again with Sofia returning as detective. She was much better in that role than as the CSI they started her character as. I hope they bring that cop-persona to this new role.
Thought #6. Continuing on this subject of shows - what's with the moronic move of not bringing back Sons of Anarchy until next fall? Damn, that sucks!!
Thought #7. Dina Meyer ROCKS!! For the past couple weeks, I've been obsessing over the short-lived series Birds of Prey that featured Dina along with Ashley Scott. I've got some other Dina Meyer movies coming in the mail shortly that I'll be checking out. For CSI fans, Dina played Meg Cunningham in the "Swap Meet" episode of season 5. She's the redhead (the OTHER redhead. Not Catherine Willows. LOL)
Thought #8. Recent albums to check out include Eilen Jewell's "Sea of Tears" and Brigitte Demeyer's "red river flower". Both are excellent. Right now, I'm also listening to the new Jill Sobule release "California Years". So far, I like what I hear.
Thought #9. I see that there are some new celebrity bio/autobios out - Marlee Matlin, Cloris Leachman, etc. I think I'll need to check those out.
Thought #10. What has happened to the FoodNetwork lately? All of their programming seems to suck these days.
Thought #11. I just saw this headline on Twitter - "Nadya Suleman files Octomom trademark application - she wants to sell you Octomom diapers, pants, dresses and shirts." That woman is a total ass. Why do the celebrity shows and tabloids keep giving her the publicity she craves? Those poor innocent kids are just being used by both their mother and the media.

How appropriate is it to start off a Friday the 13th schmooze session with a small article about those strange kids from "witch mountain"? This was in the new issue of People

I was so saddened to see this news arrive in my email this evening. Irby Mandrell, father and manager of music icon Barbara Mandrell, has passed away. Barbara was my music idol growing up, and in following her career, her father was always there in the background.

From Mandrell spokesperson:
March 5, 2009
Irby Matthew Mandrell (84) passed away today in a Nashville hospital after a brief stay. His family is grateful for and humbled by the outpouring of concern.
Irby lived a long, productive and happy life. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, Irby will be dearly missed by all.
Irby played a key role in Barbara Mandrell's life and career as her manager for more than 30 years. "It's been all about daddy and me," Mandrell recently stated at a press conference announcing her as one of the newest members to be inducted to the Country Music Hall of Fame. Mandrell continued, "This is me being honored and this is Irby Mandrell being honored, because he earned it... It's immeasurable the amount of joy I feel and I am even more grateful to be able to share this honor with my daddy, Irby Mandrell."
"Our family and some friends were standing around my daddy's bed at Baptist Hospital when he passed peacefully on to his heavenly home. I'm speaking for all of my family when I say we love him and will miss him dearly." - Barbara Mandrell.
Services will be held at Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Goodlettsville, Tennessee. The address is 1150 South Dickerson Road, 37072.
3/7 Saturday visitation: 4pm-6pm
3/8 Sunday visitation: 2-3pm
3/8 Sunday service: 3 pm

Rolling Stone magazine must be getting hard up, like the rest of the world these days. They sent me a free issue, with a card to return to get four more free issues. I used to get the magazine, but for the past few years, music has basically turned to crap so I didn't have much interest in reading about the crappy stuff. Now that Country Weekly has quit delivering subscriptions and will only be available at news stands, I might just have to think about getting RS again.
Anyway, as I was browsing through the magazine, I was pleased to find a one-page Q&A with THE Gypsy Lady, Stevie Nicks. It made me chuckle when she said that she wanted it known that it was Sheryl's decision to pass on the invitation to join Fleetwood Mac for their upcoming tour. "As Stevie Nicks, I was disappointed. As her friend, I told her she made the right decision." That was so sweet. I really hope those two can collaborate on a project again. I loved the Trouble in Shangri-la album.
On the subject of Sheryl Crow, there were a couple of small pics of her also in the RS issue:
from the latest issue of InTouch - my how Wyatt's grown up so fast!

The new NCIS soundtrack was released on tuesday. One of the tracks on the album was a Pauley Perrette (Abby) original titled "fear". I think it's become my new favorite song. I've heard Pauley sing before - mainly a few punk rock songs with her former group, Lo-Ball. With this new song, you can actually hear her voice really well.
CSI fans have also heard Pauley sing previously. Back in the season 3 episode, Lady Heather's Box, Pauley played the character, Candeece - the pink-haired singer who was involved in Eddie Willows' murder. During the flashback scenes with Candeece in the recording studio, it's one of Pauley's songs that you hear being played as she's supposedly recording a track in the scene.
( the lyrics to Pauley's new song, 'fear' )
Other songs on the soundtrack include another NCIS actor, Cote De Pablo singing "temptation", as well as more well-known singers, Bob Dylan, Jakob Dylan, John Mellencamp, Dashboard Confessional, Oasis, and many more.
Here's a link to Pauley's song: fear
ETA: Here's a little video with Pauley in the studio
And how about a wallpaper to go with the song:

The unlikely duet of Alison Krauss & Robert Plant kicked butt at the Grammys tonight, taking home five awards, including the highest honor of "album of the year" for the incredible album, Raising Sand. Other awards included "record of the year" for Please read the letter.
The only other highlight of the boring 3 1/2 hours: Sheryl looked darn good! She presented with LeAnn Rimes.
Some other notes from the show: the Taylor Swift/Miley Cyrus duet was incredibly horrible.
And my question for the night - Can someone do an audio comparison to see if Jennifer Nettles' voice actually is the same as fingernails on a chalkboard? I swear it gets worse every time I hear it.
Here's a complete list of the Grammy winners YahooNews
