The new issue of People arrived today.

This is the first I've seen of the CSI crossover promo:

A so-so showing for Fox's 'Octomom' Two-hour special averages a 1.6 in 18-49 viewers
By Toni Fitzgerald Aug 20, 2009

The Octomom craze seems to have peaked.

A documentary featuring Nadya Suleman and her 14 kids on Fox last night drew unimpressive numbers.

The two-hour special averaged a 1.6 adults 18-49 rating, according to Nielsen overnights, tying with ABC for third during the timeslot and well behind leader NBC with a 2.0.

“Octomom: The Incredible Unseen Footage” managed just 4.2 million total viewers, peaking with 4.4 million at 9:30 p.m.

HA! Nadya, your annoying 15 minutes of fame were up long ago. Even gossip mongers have moved on. It's a shame that those kids were all pawns in her fame game.

Don'tcha just love vacations?

Don'tcha just hate it when they come to an end?

Yeah, I'm at that point. Only another 36 hours before I finish up this vacation and start back into the routine of wo... wor... ... jeez, I don't think I can say it.

WORK

There! I said it. Those darn four letter words!!

I've had about three weeks of vacation in the past month - with about a week and a half of back-to-work stuck a bit there in the middle. Unfortunately, this wonderful vacation time has seemed to turn me into a lazy procrastinator. Okay, I guess I already was before, but now it's worse. (like how I started washing a load of clothes about five hours ago and still haven't gone downstairs to switch them from the washer to the dryer yet - yikes!) I basically didn't get anything done on my "to-do" list during the vacation time, but the lazy "watch dvds, play on the computer, or visit relatives" stuff that I actually did was very refreshing.

So, it seems that my batteries have now been recharged - just in time for the fall high school sports season to start. That's usually a crazy time at work, because no one's ready to get back into the routine of high school sports broadcasts that run from September through May.

Another thing that comes along with the start of the school year - the new fall tv schedule will be starting up. There are some new shows I'm eagerly looking forward to, as well as my regular returning shows. But, I'll save that for later. We'll get into all of that in the weeks to come.

The one bright spot for the past week and a half of vacation - I did a bit more artwork. Yes, it's still Stargate SG-1 (and strangely enough, all Sam/Amanda). I've now gone through and watched the entire 10 seasons of the series in the past couple months. (Overload, anyone?!) So, here they are:

NO, I don't want the Rolling Stone Special Commemorative Tribute Issue for Michael Jackson.
NO, I don't want to watch ANOTHER news report about Michael Jackson
NO, I don't want to watch ANOTHER special tv tribute about Michael Jackson
NO, I don't want to see ANOTHER story about Michael Jackson in a newspaper or magazine.

Yes, I understand that Michael Jackson was a popular singer, however, I don't think there was anything that special about him that would make his death turn out to be the media circus that it's been so far. (here's my Jukebox tribute to MJ)

My point is - in the last few weeks, we've lost Ed McMahon, Farrah Fawcett, Karl Malden, Gale Storm, and Billy Mays. Has anyone noticed? Other than the 'breaking news' alerts we got at the death of Farrah Fawcett, which were quickly eclipsed by the MJ news, all we see is a few small mentions and then... nothing.

SO, here's a salute to Ed, Farrah, Karl, Gale and Billy.

HA! I almost missed this one.

Today was "National Shut Up Day"! A day to give quiet people a chance to talk! LOL

Speaking of 'quiet' - guess I've been a bit quiet on here lately. I guess I've been busy, exhausted, in need of a vacation. I hate when real life gets in the way of my computer fun. Work, work, family commitments, work, work... it doesn't help that there are still frost warnings for this area at night these days. Jeez, Mother Nature! It's already June, for goodness sake. Bring me WARM weather already, would ya?

Tomorrow is our annual radio station-sponsored golf tournament, which means I have to spend my requisite one day a year at a golf course, trying to act cordial around about 80 dunk guys who will be out playing golf. (I think they only come because of the beer!) I've never golfed in my life - unless you count the game on my computer. I haven't figured out the fun in hitting a ball, walking, hitting a ball, walking, hitting a ball, etc. To add to the boredom, I also have to work the early morning sign-on shift, so I'll be trying my darndest not to fall asleep before the time the tournament ends.

Another show in trouble?

Just saw this on Ausiello's Twitter:
-" Source: Without a Trace 'likely over.' "--

Interesting. Now, I don't watch WaT on a regular basis, but I have caught a few episodes - including the one with the CSI crossover (well, mainly just the CSI part of that show), but I do love Anthony LaPaglia. If the show does end, I'd like to see him make repeated guest appearances on CSI as Jack. However, I see on imdb.com that AL has two other projects already completed, another in pre-production, and two more in development. He's a busy guy.

A big bummer for me - Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles with Lena Heady is cancelled. BIG BUMMER!!

On a related note, Ausiello says that "Cold Case" (another show I don't watch regularly) has been renewed. Ausiello's posted a fall tv cheat sheet to keep track of all the shows.

On a high note: She's officially a HoF'er!! Barbara Mandrell, Roy Clark & Charlie McCoy were officially inducted into the County Music Hall of Fame in Nashville! Barbara was my first music 'idol'.

Hop on my thought merry-go-round

It seems there are too many jumbled thoughts going through my brain tonight, so how about a mish-mash of random posting?

Thought #1. Spring is FINALLY here. I'm contemplating whether I should start a garden in my backyard. I've been in town now for almost 11 years since moving from the farm, and I've yet to have my own garden here. I'm constantly annoyed that the fruits & veggies that I buy at the store are usually rotten by the time I actually use them, and having my own garden would give me the convenience of having things fresh.

The downside is the upkeep. In the past, I wasn't a good gardener. The weeds ended up being waist high and overtaking most of the fruits & veggies.

Thought #2. I'm looking forward to the new CSI episode this week. I hope there are some great scenes with Wendy as it seems she has a more prominent part in the storyline again. Even though I'm not a big fan of the sci-fi stuff, the preview of the episode looks interesting.

Thought #3. What's up with my Minnesota Twins? If they get decent pitching, they don't really get much offense. it they get lousy pitching, they still don't really get much offense. After two seasons, I'm still not much of a fan of Denard Span or Delmon Young.

Thought #4. Season 2 of In Plain Sight with Mary McCormack begins this sunday on the USA network. I'm looking forward to that starting up again.

Thought #5. Speaking of new/returning shows - Louise Lombard's new role in the NCIS spinoff will begin April 28th on NCIS as part 1 of the two-part crossover. Can't wait to see Louise back on screen. Tonight, SpikeTV was starting to re-air the beginning of season 6 again with Sofia returning as detective. She was much better in that role than as the CSI they started her character as. I hope they bring that cop-persona to this new role.

Thought #6. Continuing on this subject of shows - what's with the moronic move of not bringing back Sons of Anarchy until next fall? Damn, that sucks!!

Thought #7. Dina Meyer ROCKS!! For the past couple weeks, I've been obsessing over the short-lived series Birds of Prey that featured Dina along with Ashley Scott. I've got some other Dina Meyer movies coming in the mail shortly that I'll be checking out. For CSI fans, Dina played Meg Cunningham in the "Swap Meet" episode of season 5. She's the redhead (the OTHER redhead. Not Catherine Willows. LOL)

Thought #8. Recent albums to check out include Eilen Jewell's "Sea of Tears" and Brigitte Demeyer's "red river flower". Both are excellent. Right now, I'm also listening to the new Jill Sobule release "California Years". So far, I like what I hear.

Thought #9. I see that there are some new celebrity bio/autobios out - Marlee Matlin, Cloris Leachman, etc. I think I'll need to check those out.

Thought #10. What has happened to the FoodNetwork lately? All of their programming seems to suck these days.

Thought #11. I just saw this headline on Twitter - "Nadya Suleman files Octomom trademark application - she wants to sell you Octomom diapers, pants, dresses and shirts." That woman is a total ass. Why do the celebrity shows and tabloids keep giving her the publicity she craves? Those poor innocent kids are just being used by both their mother and the media.

Have I mentioned lately that I HATE SNOW?! After digging out from the latest 2-day blizzard, of which I had to walk to & from work through waist-high snow drifts, I can finally get a little bit of sanity to return - but only a little bit, mind you, as this is also our busiest time at the radio station with girls and boys basketball tournaments going on at the same time. Please plug your ears for a moment while I indulge...

The finale of The L Word is coming WAY too fast!

*slaps head* OMG! It took me THIS long to realize that's the same "wonder woman" movie that Marg is in as the voice of Hera - wife to the lovable David McCallum's Zeus! Holy crap! As far as you're concerned, the internet is getting weirder and weirder.

And you're the type of person who can never look away, no matter how bizarre or gross something is.

No doubt about it, there are some pretty deeply disturbing people out there. And they are totally shameless!

I came across this intriguing tidbit from tvsquad.com.

They list the Top Ten 'Coolest Characters on TV now'. The interesting part was that there were only two females listed. One, of course, was Catherine Willows!
1. Michael Westen (Jeffrey Donovan), 'Burn Notice'
2. Barney Stinson (Neil Patrick Harris), 'How I Met Your Mother'
3. Don Draper (Jon Hamm), 'Mad Men'
4. Tony Dinozzo (Michael Weatherly), 'NCIS'
5. Shawn Spencer (James Roday), 'Psych'
6. Catherine Willows (Marg Helgenberger), 'CSI'
"Forensic science is cool? Well, yes, when Catherine is the investigator. How many crime scene scientists come from the world of Las Vegas show girls? Catherine's background, with her mother a casino girl and the father she never knew till she was grown up one of the top hotel kingpins, makes her an authentic Vegas character. She understands the mythology and magic of the city, but works on the dark side with the criminal underworld. Whether she's mingling with mobsters or peering over a microscope, Willows is at home, and that's why she's so cool."

7. Patrick Jane (Simon Baker), 'The Mentalist'
8. Sarah Walker (Yvonne Stravoski), 'Chuck'
9. Conner (Tom Cavanagh), 'Trust Me'
10. Jack Donaghy (Alec Baldwin), '30 Rock'

- - - - -
An 'un-interesting' list, I'd say. The only shows included in that list that I actually watch are CSI & NCIS. For 'coolest' character on NCIS, I'd pick Abby over Tony any day! As for the rest on that list? Blah!

I haven't had a chance to really think about it yet, but who would you include on a list of 'coolest characters on tv now'? I'd at least include Gemma Teller (Katey Sagal) of Sons of Anarchy, and from last year, I'd definitely include Lindsay Boxer of Women's Murder Club.

Here's the story of a lovely lady...

...Who was bringing up three very lovely girls.

I saw this ‘reunion’ pic of some of the “Brady Bunch” kids in the latest issue of People:
Photobucket

And somehow it got me thinking about tv theme songs again. It’s kind of funny how those great shows ‘back in the day’ had some great theme songs. Some just had simple melodies – like “The Waltons” or “Bewitched”. Some had tunes that were specially written for the show, like “the Brady Bunch” or “Facts of Life”. Some used obnoxious, driving beats like “Miami Vice” or “NYPD Blue”. And them some just take a regular well-known song, like all of the CSIs, “China Beach”, “Beverly Hillbillies” or “Dukes of Hazzard” and make it their theme song.

Some of my all-time favorite theme songs:
Facts of Life
The Waltons
Bewitched
Maude
Brady Bunch
Gilligan’s Island
Addams Family
Cheers
St Elsewhere (that was a great song to play in the high school band for concerts!)
Greatest American Hero (another great one for band)
WKRP in Cincinnati
Dallas
Laverne & Shirley
The Jeffersons
M*A*S*H

Any of your favorites that I missed?

On a different note, I saw this pic of Sean Penn in People, and it mentioned Sean in a tearful moment with his wife, Robin." Didn't they split up? I guess I missed something on that.

Keep on the sunny side...

...always on the sunny side. Keep on the sunny side of life.

There are always those few songs that make you smile when you hear them - no matter what mood you're in. "Keep on the sunny side" by The Carter Family has always been one of those songs for me. But that really has nothing to do with this post. It just came on my mp3 player as I started typing this post and it made me smile.

I've been going through scrapbooks of old magazine & newspaper clippings and was having a trip down memory lane. There are many clippings of old tv shows & celebrities/actors. So as I was looking through these, a question popped in my mind. Who would you consider the "most interesting" female tv characters of all time? Not necessarily your favorites, but characters that were a bit complex or intriguing.

Here's what I came up with:

1 K.C. Koloski - China Beach (you already knew Marg was going to be on top of the list, didn't you?)
A wartime druggie hooker with an occasional heart. How much more complex can you get?

2. Abby Cunningham Ewing - Knots Landing
A devious, scheming woman who had great fashion sense (minus the big shoulder pads of the '80s. LOL)

3. Shane McCutcheon - The L Word
A woman who can turn the phrase "one night stand" into an art form, yet is one of the most loyal friends a person could have.

4. Thelma Harper - Mama's Family
The bickering "mama" who begrudgingly had her grown son & his wife living in her basement and who never ran out of great one-liner wisecracks!

5. Maryann Thorpe - Cybill
A hard-drinking rich divorcee who likes to torment her ex (Dr. DICK!) and don't forget - a faithful best friend.

6. Nikita - La Femme Nikita
Her whole identity was a mystery to society, yet she was still able to find her own identity in the kill-or-die environment of Section One, and she never gave up her humanity.

7. Gemma Teller Morrow - Sons of Anarchy
This character put a whole new meaning to the term "biker chick". She's a mother who will 'protect her own' like no other.

8. Jo Polniaczek/Blair Warner - Facts of life
Basically, you can't have one without the other. They're Yin/Yang - the tough street kid from The Bronx and the spoiled rich kid.

9. Catherine Willows - C.S.I.
A former stripper & drug addict turned CSI and mother. Streetwise, smart & sexy - and knows how to use what she's got.

10. Pinky Tuscadero - Happy Days
A woman who can steal the heart of the Fonz, be feisty, and ride a motorcycle gets my vote!

11. Samantha Stephens - Bewitched
You're probably saying - how can a plain housewife be on a 'most interesting' list? Well, Sam gets on my list by being originally heartwarming - a witch who (tries to) give up her witchcraft for her mortal husband. And can't forget the nose twitch!

12. Diane Russell - NYPD Blue
A drunk who was abused as a child, secretly romancing a fellow police officer (and later getting married), having a miscarriage, then her husband dies. Tell me THAT'S not an interesting character!

13. Sister Peter Marie - Oz
A nun working in a maximum security prison as a counselor & psychiatrist, constantly facing hardened criminals and naked men. Hmmmm. Maybe I should have moved her up on this list!

14. Peg Bundy - Married with children
A sex-crazed wife & mother with no regard for anything other than shopping, clothes and watching tv. Don't even mention cooking or cleaning!

15. Nora Wilde - The Naked Truth
A quirky tabloid photojournalist (or should I say "paparazzo"?) who could get herself into the funniest of situations.

Any others you'd add?

HA! I bet y'all didn't even notice that I've been a ghost for the past week.

Well, it's just that time of year for the usual vacation...get away from work...get away from home... acquire a disease known as computer withdrawl... WHEW! at least it only lasted a week. It's nice to get away from the normal routine every once in a while, but I find that usually after a week, it's sure nice to get home and get back INTO the normal routine again (minus that stupid thing they call a 'job' - at least for a few more days, anyway).

I did manage to find a few ways to amuse myself during the getaway. One was that thing that involves spending a day with relatives that you usually only see once a year - an event known to most people as a "family reunion".

I also got to finally see the latest Meryl Streep movie, Mama Mia. I WANNA SEE IT AGAIN!!!!! Great movie! I hadn't really seen many of the previews, and didn't really know much about the movie other than Meryl was in it - so I was pleasantly surprised to find that Christine Baranski also had a major role in the movie. I was chuckling all the way through about how similar the role was to her role as "Mary Ann" in the tv series, Cybill. Julie Walters was also a hoot to watch. Plus, it was great to hear music that I actually knew throughout the movie. Can't wait to pick up the dvd.

Speaking of... I did pick up the new dvd release of the Jodie Foster/Abigail Breslin movie, Nim's Island. I love watching Jodie in a very comedic role. It reminded me of her days of the Disney movies, like Candleshoe and Freaky Friday.

As I'm on the subject of shows, I was also able to go to a dinner theater to watch a performance of Swing. I have to say that I was a bit bored with the show. I didn't know hardly any of the songs, and the constant dancing became monotonous. I guess the best part of the night was the great food.

I also stopped at a Goodwill store and found the Patricia Cornwell book, Trace, and got started reading that - although I think I'm reading these books (which focus on a character called Kay Scarpetta, who's a forensic pathologist) out of order. Because in starting this book, I feel a bit lost in the story. I've got to find the list of books in order, then it might be a good idea to start reading them that way (ya think?)

So, after nine days away from home, there's a mighty stack of magazines to go through (along with the rest of the mail), many pages of my journal friends to catch up on, lots of clothes to wash, and my lawn that is in desperate need of mowing.

So, instead of trying to catch up on everything right away, I need y'all to catch me up on everything I've missed in the past week+. So, what's the latest gossip? C'mon. Bring it on!!

I don't do very many memes, but I saw this one floating around a few places, and since it's 1am and I'm bored - and I've got the mp3 player playing anyway- I figured I'd do this one...even though I should be cleaning house, washing dishes, putting up the curtains I took down to wash last weekend, or even *gasp* SLEEPING at this time of night. So, here we go:

If my life was a movie, what would the soundtrack be?

Here's how it works:
1. Open your library (iTunes, Winamp, Media Player, iPod, etc)
2. Put it on shuffle
3. Press play
4. For every question, type the song that's playing
5. When you go to a new question, press the next button
6. Don't lie and try to pretend you're cool...

here's what I got )
